Family attractions include pony rides, a petting zoo, a mechanical bull, various vendors, and a 4th of July BBQ. Camping overnight is allowed for rodeo contestants, with no open flames or horse pens permitted.
The program is hosted by The Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County at a premier equestrian facility in the San Francisco Bay Area that operates one of Northern California’s horse show facilities, including two exhibitors show rings, a permanent grandstand, warm-up and practice areas, a 20-stall barn, and a clubhouse with a 200-person great hall, bar, indoor kitchen, and propane-driven outdoor cook stove. The Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County was established on March 31, 1942, and has been in existence since 1942. Its mission includes promoting and supporting western horsemanship and rural values, and it brings over 80 years of preserving the equestrian tradition. The facility can convert to a relief center with 275 cots, 402 blankets, 84 5-gallon jugs of water, tools and first aid supplies, and its own generator that can service the entire grounds, and it is ready to handle humans and animals with a large riding arena, livestock pens, and a 20-stall barn.
The Mounted Patrol operates as a center for equestrian improvement and excellence, a social club, and has a separately administered charitable foundation. It is officially designated by the Woodside Fire Protection District and CERPP (Citizens Emergency Response Preparedness Program), and its 23-acre facility is ready at any time to convert to a relief center. Rodeo participants can apply for scholarships sponsored by the Bill Lane Fund, the Mounted Patrol Foundation, and the Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks, including the Bill Lane Scholarship Award offering $2,000 and $1,000 scholarships to rodeo participants.
