Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation

Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation offers sailing instruction for youth ages 6 to 18. Its programs include Guppies, Learn to Sail, Learn to Sail 2.0, Learn to Sail 3.0, Opti Development Team, Adventure Sailing, Private Lessons, and Towing Lessons.

Programs

• Guppies — 6 to 7 · Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. · $700 per session · Boats are provided. Max class size 10. No experience needed, but sailors must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket. Earliest acceptable drop-off time is 8:45 a.m.
• Adventure Sailing — 12+ grouped by age · Monday to Thursday 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. · $700 per session · Boats are provided. Max class size 12. No prior experience is required, but sailors must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket. Earliest acceptable drop-off time is 8:45 a.m.
• Learn to Sail — 8 to 11 · Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. · $1,400 per session · Boats are provided. Max class size 12. No experience is necessary, but sailors must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket. Earliest acceptable drop-off time is 8:45 a.m.
• Learn to Sail 2.0 — 8 to 11 · Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. · $700 per session · Boats are provided. Max class size 12. Requires completion of Learn to Sail and coach approval. Earliest acceptable drop-off time is 8:45 a.m.
• Learn to Sail 3.0 — 8 to 11 · Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. · $700 per session · Boats are provided. Max class size 6. Requires completion of Learn 2.0 and coach approval. Earliest acceptable drop-off time is 8:45 a.m.
• Opti Development Team — 8 to 11 · Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. · $700 per session · Boats are provided when available, with priority given to new sailors. Those with the most seniority will be required to purchase their own boat. Max class size 8. Requires completion of Learn 3.0.
• Private Lessons — Available to sailors who would like more specialized, personal attention. Coordinate through [email protected], subject to coach availability.
• Towing Lessons — Introduction to Towing for Parents class to help transport sailboats to regattas. Class dates forthcoming for Spring season.

About the provider

The program says it provides a comprehensive sailing program for youth in the Bay Area. Its classes stress safety and focus on character, community, and competitiveness. PYSF Scholarships are available as part of its mission to teach sailing regardless of ability to pay.

Registration opens February 20. Registration closes 2 weeks before class begins. Cancellation policy: $50 service charge for cancellation outside of 2 weeks prior to class. No refunds within 2 weeks of class start. In the event of inclement weather that poses a safety risk, classes may be canceled or postponed. Some kids may repeat learn-to-sail multiple times before advancing to Learn 2.0. This class does not compete in regattas. Juniors may intern as Junior Instructors.
