About
GSG Youth Recreational Basketball League offers youth basketball league play that includes Sunday games and practices for all teams. The program focuses on basketball, including league games that follow specific game rules such as 8-minute quarters, an All Play Rule requiring every player to play in at least two full quarters, and defined timeout, overtime, and clock rules. The league accepts players of all skill levels and places each player on a team in an age-based division.
• Ages: 7–14 years old
• Schedule: Sundays only from August 16, 2026 to October 4, 2026, with league play running from August 16, 2026 to September 27, 2026 and no games on September 6, 2026; Evaluation Day for new players is August 2, 2026 with age-based time slots
• Price: $175 for current Youth Club members; $250 for non-Youth Club members
The program includes an Evaluation Day on August 2, 2026 for new players only, with evaluation times set from 10am to 11am for ages 6–8, 11am to 12pm for ages 9–10, 12pm to 1pm for ages 11–12, and 1pm to 2pm for ages 13–14. Players who participated in a previous Rec League season do not need to attend Evaluation Day. Game rules also include no shot clock with a 10-second back court violation, specific clock rules for the last 2 minutes and for a 20-point lead, division-based press rules for Little Ballers, Jr. Ballers, Ballers, and Big Ballers, and foul rules with team foul thresholds, no fouling out, technical foul consequences, and disqualification after a second technical foul. Free throw rules allow players to enter the lane when the ball is released, and tiebreakers are decided by head-to-head results, point differential with a maximum of 15 points, and points allowed. Spectator expectations emphasize good sportsmanship with possible ejection for misbehavior, and there are defined misbehavior and ejection rules for coaches and athletes, including suspensions and penalties, with the Tournament Director having the final say on all suspensions.
For current Youth Club members, the fee includes a reversible jersey, a minimum of 5 games, fundamental coaching, and organized activities described as “lots of fun.” For non-Youth Club members, the fee includes an annual Youth Club membership that provides full access to the Youth Club year-round and the opportunity to join other activities. As part of this annual membership, players can access Youth Club programs for a year, including weekly activities such as sports, DIY STEM, art, music, and more. Scholarships may be available to those who qualify. There are no spectator fees for regular season games, and a nominal spectator fee applies during playoff weekends.
GSG states that it is a premier destination for basketball tournaments, leagues, and events in the San Francisco Bay Area and that it is dedicated to creating opportunities for athletes to compete, grow, and thrive in a positive, high-energy environment. Its mission is to inspire a love for the game, foster teamwork, and promote sportsmanship on and off the court.
