About
YES Nature to Neighborhoods Youth Programs includes a Youth Leadership Pathway that spans ten years from childhood through young adulthood. The programs take place in partnership with nature and focus on leadership among youth, adults, and whole families through year-round training, mentorship, and experiences in nature. YES’ Family Camps are community retreats in the redwoods that bring together youth and adults to practice leadership within their families and community.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
In partnership with nature, YES Nature to Neighborhoods Youth Programs follows a mission in which YES nurtures leaders who champion the wellbeing of the community. The Youth Leadership Pathway programs focus on youth developing the skills and confidence to work toward a just society and a sustainable environment. The Adult Leadership Pathway is a series of progressive programs that increase the leadership capacity of Richmond adults to improve community conditions. YES’ Family Camps cultivate connection to nature and healthy relationships and serve as a platform for youth and adults to practice leadership among their families and community.
YES collaborates at the forefront of the movement to increase equity and inclusivity in the outdoors and delivers equity, inclusion, and diversity (EID) training to partner organizations. YES increases access and breaks down barriers for those historically excluded from the outdoors, and seeks to remove barriers that impede access for youth and families of color and those who identify with other non-dominant backgrounds so they can connect to nature and serve as leaders in the outdoors. YES reclaims connection to the earth and embraces the power of nature to heal, inspire awe, and develop empowered and compassionate leaders. YES creates brave spaces that foster cross-cultural relationships, build resilience in the community, and unite people in common cause. The YES team participates in regular training focused on the inequities created by power and privilege, and YES embeds equity, inclusion, and diversity (EID) values into its hiring, program, and fundraising practices.
