KICKS has been around for over 20 years. The mission at KICKS Riverside is to provide positive instruction in the mental, physical, and character-building aspects of martial arts, to give personal attention in training, to provide the best facilities in the area, to create a safe, positive, and enthusiastic environment, and to offer inspiration of personal excellence through the example of Black Belts in and out of the dojo or school. The program covers leadership and self-discipline skills, empowers students to defend themselves with their hands and feet, on the ground or standing, and with their mind, encourages students to use their words first, encourages them to stay out of bad situations and away from the wrong group of people, and does not encourage fighting. It provides Home Practice Videos, gives students who could not fit into other sports a place to thrive, has had success helping specific students to no longer need medication for attention issues, and gives students a chance to work toward becoming a Black Belt. The program uses the slogans “Building Strong Minds and Bodies,” “We Transform Lives,” and “Striving For Black Belt Excellence.”
Grand Master Kit Mattson is the founder of KICKS, is a world champion in TaeKwondo, and is a member of the TaeKwondo Hall of Fame. His teacher is Grand Master Moon Kyu Im, a Korean National Military leader and hero, who is also a representative for the World TaeKwonDo Federation for the Western Region and gives KICKS the opportunity to certify Black Belts directly through Korea and Kukkiwon. Master Jeff Mascolina is the Master Instructor at KICKS Riverside, has over 25 years of martial arts experience, has been teaching for over 15 years, and works with special needs children with ADD/ADHD, Autism, and different forms of physical handicaps.
