Holiday and summer camps run Monday–Friday with morning sessions from 9:00am–12:00pm and afternoon sessions from 12:30pm–3:30pm, and campers can sign up for both sessions in the same week and stay through a supervised lunch break to make a full day camp. theCoderSchool was founded in 2014 and is headquartered in Silicon Valley, and the Rocklin camps are part of a nationwide system of over 70 locations teaching over 7,000 students every week. Camps and lessons use beginner-friendly tools like Scratch and MIT App Inventor, and the program offers a small student-to-coach ratio of 2:1 with customized project-based coding lessons, available both in-person and remotely. In the Advanced 3D Print camp, students use Blender, a professional-grade modeling and animation tool, and can take home their own 3D-printed creations.

The mission of theCoderSchool Rocklin is to do more than just teach coding, encouraging aspiring coders to think outside the box, channel their ideas in a creative way, and have fun. TheCoderSchool runs a National Top App of the Month program, selecting the best app out of hundreds submitted nationwide by students each month. TheCoderSchool is also a longtime partner of the Congressional App Challenge and collaborates with the Challenge to run a national recognition program to identify top applications from CAC submissions.

Parents have shared that their kids learned STEM concepts via coding with a customized curriculum, that online classes were engaging and a “quarantine lifesaver,” and that their children enjoyed creating games and returning to improve them in later sessions. Parents have also reported that their kids were very excited about the Scratch camp and looked forward to returning.
