About

California Learning Center Tutoring Programs offers instruction in Reading, Math, Writing, Study Skills, SAT/ACT Prep, and High School Placement Test preparation. The program provides online digital tutoring sessions and uses research-based programs developed at California State University, Los Angeles. Each student receives diagnostic testing that pinpoints strengths and weaknesses and leads to an individually designed tutoring program documented in writing, with activity-based, hands-on experiences for primary and elementary children and knowledge of California standards and curriculum content for middle and high school students.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

California Learning Center Tutoring Programs serves students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, with programs individually tailored to meet the specific needs of each student. On average, students advance their skills at least one year for each course of instruction, and each student follows a personally developed education plan. The average student-to-tutor ratio is 2:1 with a credentialed teacher, all students receive 1:1 teacher interaction and personalized learning time, and younger students or students with ADD may work in an individual learning situation. Motivational plans include a reward shelf for young children and “CLC credit cards” for older students, and studies have confirmed that this teaching model is effective and encourages students to develop independence.

Students are taught by credentialed, experienced teachers who have a comprehensive grasp of the curriculum, and tutors are credentialed teachers with previous teaching experience using proven techniques. The leadership team includes owner/director Sandra Hampton, a former public school educator and Resource teacher, and Director of Middle/High School Programs Kimberly McElhern, a credentialed teacher. Sandra Hampton received the First Year Teacher of the Year Award from her district, was honored by the Roseville Area Schools Outstanding Teacher’s Foundation, later earned the Teacher of the Year award at her school site, and was honored by Placer County Office of Education as a Teacher Who Makes a Difference.

California Learning Center Tutoring Programs developed from the original network of private after-school educational clinics established in 1970 and has been operating in the Sacramento area since the mid-1980s, developing confident, successful students in the Sacramento region for over 25 years. The program states that it is committed to each child's progress and offers an open-ended commitment to student success. The program seeks input from students’ classroom teachers and integrates that input into the education plans. One family reports that both of their children attended and received the support they needed to be successful, another family reports that their daughter is more confident as a student after making a lot of progress, and another parent describes the staff as fantastic and reports that their girls have attended for years and found it a tremendous help. The program also states that no mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes, and that text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
