Spare Time Junior Tennis Academy offers junior tennis programming that includes Red Ball, Orange Ball, Green Ball, Friday Match Play, Junior Team Tennis, USTA tournaments, UTR tournaments, private lessons, group clinics, and team formats. Players take part in high energy drills and games and on court workouts. Families also have access to additional activities at Spare Time Sports Clubs such as recreational and lap swimming, active youth and adult swim programs, swim teams, kids’ nights out, group exercise classes, yoga, Pilates, water fitness, racquetball, squash, basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and massage.

Spare Time Junior Tennis Academy is a year-round program structured for players to train five days a week, with monthly Academy fees set to encourage consistent year-round participation. The program can be offered rain or shine by using the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center, and Spare Time Sports Club members on the Monthly Unlimited Academy plan can use the Spare Time Indoor Center when available while other programs cannot run due to rain or inclement weather. The program provides a free try-out for the serious tennis player ages 11–18, offers a family-friendly multi-child discount, and is structured so Academy players can attend an unlimited number of sessions at any location. Each player can request periodic progress reports, and all new players are issued a gift card to shop a player kit from the Academy Store, which has a wide variety of options and is open to players, families, coaches, and friends. The stated mission of Spare Time Junior Tennis Academy is “To maximize the individual development of the highly motivated, accomplished and competitive junior tennis player.”
Spare Time Sports Clubs has operated since 1972 and provides state-of-the-art sports clubs and an indoor tennis center with an aura of luxury, emphasizing both fitness and social gatherings in a resort-style environment. The Academy reports a track record that includes developing over 300 college tennis players who have gone on to compete at more than 85 major college and university programs nationwide, with most players earning tennis and/or academic scholarships, over 40 national junior titles among its players, and several players advancing to compete on professional tour circuits around the world. Spare Time Junior Tennis Academy is led by certified tennis professionals, including world-class, nationally certified tennis professionals. Academy leadership includes Dima Hrynashka, Academy Director at Rio Del Oro Sports Club and Head Coach of the Sacramento State Women’s Team, and Doug Atkinson, Academy Director at Broadstone Sports Club. Dima Hrynashka holds an ITF Coaching Certification, and Doug Atkinson is a USPTA Elite Pro, a USTA/USPTA Specialist in Competitive Player Development, a USPTA Silver Anniversary Award recipient as NorCal “Top Teacher,” a three-time USPTA Nor Cal “Pro of the Year,” a two-time “Coach of the Year” award recipient, a USTA Certified High-Performance Coach, a 2019 NorCal Sports Association Hall of Fame inductee, and the 2023 USPTA Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
