The Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento was founded in 1944 and has been located at its current site since 1965, marking 80 years of service to the Sacramento region. The organization is nationally accredited and state licensed, and it has received commendations from the City and County of Sacramento, as well as the California Assembly and Senate. The Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento states that it is committed to positively impacting the lives of children, youth, and families affected by abuse, neglect, behavioral health issues, and trauma in California. Its continuum of care includes an on-site preschool for the youngest survivors of family trauma, outpatient mental health care for children in the community dealing with anxiety and depression, and residential treatment for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or other trauma.
The Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento was founded through a cooperative effort of the Junior League of Sacramento and the Rotary Club of Sacramento and serves the Sacramento region, including youth from foster, homeless, and LGBTQ+ communities, in partnership with community organizations. In 2024–25, 298 youth from foster, homeless, and LGBTQ+ communities were served by the Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento. Data from the organization show that 75% of its day treatment clients demonstrated a reduction in symptoms such as depression and thoughts of self-harm, and 96% of parents and caregivers reported being satisfied with the day-treatment therapy their youths received. The organization reports that 100% of Sprouts Preschool children, parents, and caregivers reported being satisfied with the Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento’s care to reduce impacts of trauma.
The Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento also offers the Growing Hope Club for recurring donations and the CRH Legacy Campaign: Honoring a legacy, building their future. A testimonial from Christine Briceno, a Children’s Receiving Home alum and former board member, states, “The Children’s Receiving Home gave me more than shelter. It gave me support, safety and the seeds of hope for a successful future.”
