Highlands Christian Preschool was founded in 1966 as part of Highlands Christian Schools, a ministry of Church of the Highlands. The preschool operates within a Christian atmosphere of respect and loving appreciation for each person and for the wonders of God’s world, and Highlands Christian Schools’ vision is “Educating For Excellence,” with a focus on intellectual, spiritual, physical, and social excellence. It is a non-denominational school where Christian beliefs are a vital and integral part of the preschool program.

The program includes a Toddler program for children ages 18 to 30 months in a hygienic and creative place for toddlers as they reach developmental milestones. Preschool I (potty training) serves children ages 31 to 36 months with a primary focus on potty training, while Preschool I (2.5–3 years old) and Preschool II (3–4 year olds) focus on spiritual, academic, social, and emotional growth. The Kinder College program serves 4–5 year olds with an emphasis on academic growth.

Highlands Christian Preschool uses the Abeka and Saxon academic curriculum, along with the Lillio curriculum, which follows the California Preschool Learning Foundations and Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Foundations. The program includes a holistic, well-rounded structure with an engaging monthly theme, a Social and Emotional Curriculum (SEL), and the Simply Loved Bible Curriculum. There is an emphasis on developing gross motor skills through Motor Fitness, library visitations with a focus on reading, art class to explore creativity and visual arts concepts, and Vacation Bible School as a fun, faith-based summer program.

Highlands Preschool is licensed through the Department of Social Services and the State of California, LIC #410500303. The leadership team includes Fidel Batnag (Head of Schools), Jonah Erickson (Principal, Middle School English Teacher), Melanie Cabie (Director of Student Services), Crystal Camacho (Preschool Director), Samaa Srouji (Associate Director of Preschool), Irma Diaz (Director of Admissions), Kevin Valera (Athletic Director), and Jay Zaben (Office Manager).

Parent feedback includes comments from Claudine C., who notes that her child loves his teachers and going to school and that she is happy with his progress at Highlands Christian Schools. Dave A. shares that Ms. Gloria and Ms. Grace provide hands-on learning experiences, including song and dance, and that his child is learning a Christian foundation at the preschool. Veronica A. thanks the staff for their work and recognizes Teacher April, noting that her child has been able to memorize Bible verses and songs and that this is important to their Christian family.
