About

Izzi Early Education offers no-cost education and care for children, with all of its locations providing quality preschool care and some locations also offering infant and toddler care. The program includes center-based infant, toddler, and preschool childcare, a home visiting program for pregnant women and families with young children, and family child care in smaller, home-like settings through licensed providers. It also offers comprehensive services such as nutritious meals, developmental screenings, vision and hearing checks, growth assessments, and dental services including screenings, cleanings, and minor procedures.

• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: Office hours 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; full-day, year-round program options

Izzi Early Education was founded in 1983 as the Institute for Human and Social Development (IHSD), became a subcontractor for the State Preschool Program in 1999, and introduced the Izzi Early Education name in 2021. The program is a nonprofit Head Start grantee and a state preschool subcontractor. Its mission is to provide excellent comprehensive child development and support services to the highest need children 0–5 years old and their families in partnership with the community of San Mateo County.

Izzi Early Education partners with the community to provide nutritious meals, developmental screenings, health checks, and dental services, and it connects parents to resources and support. Families can take part in Raising A Reader and the Father’s Café, and they have leadership opportunities through Parent Ambassadors and the Policy Council. The organization relies on fundraising and community support and works with community partners to offer early childhood programs with whole-child learning experiences and wraparound services for families, including options for full-day care for working families.

The EarlySpark Institute, connected with Izzi Early Education, offers a six-month, paid, in-person teacher training program that combines classroom experience, coursework, and wraparound support to help participants earn a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. The leadership and management team includes roles such as Executive/Program Director, Deputy Director, Education Manager, Child Services Managers, Health and Nutrition Services Manager, Mental Health Coordinator, Family Services Coordinators, and other administrative and support positions, along with a Board of Directors for 2025–26. Parents have shared that the topics discussed in Izzi’s parent education classes have helped them in different situations and that having their child at school has allowed them to work part-time and look for housing.
