Caio Terra Academy San Carlos Youth BJJ offers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and No Gi training for children and teens. The program takes place at Caio Terra Academy, which has over 2,000 square feet of mats and follows a curriculum developed and tested by 12-time world champion Professor Caio Terra. The academy offers a family-friendly, professional setting with programs for men, women, and children, including a Family Class for all ages.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options Monday–Friday in the late afternoon and early evening, plus a Saturday morning Family Class
• Price: Kids billed monthly, with prices starting at $250; month-to-month $300; 1-year commitment $250, including access to all classes and family discounts; additional billed monthly and prepaid plans also start at $250 and can include access to all classes, open mats, and 2 holds per year
Professor Caio Terra is a 12-time world champion who started training Jiu Jitsu in 2002, has won numerous open weight titles, is a three-time American national Absolute champion, and has won the IBJJF No Gi world championship a record ten times. All instructors at Caio Terra Academy are personally trained and certified by Professor Caio Terra. The main instructor at the San Carlos academy is Mateus de Moraes Coelho, originally from Manaus, Brazil, who captured his first world title and Pan’s title within a year of arriving and earned the rank of black belt. The Youth Program Director, Beatriz “Bia” Gutierrez, is originally from São Paulo, Brazil, has won many IBJJF opens, captured an American National title, and has taught children for over a decade, including serving as a kids’ program director in Palo Alto.
The academy follows a one team philosophy, stating that everyone is always welcome, whether a student is a total beginner or a current champion. Caio Terra Academy offers a free, no obligation 2-day trial for local Bay Area residents. One parent, Babylynne Drexler, states that “CTA has changed our lives; and has been such a positive and motivating force for both me and my son. They are dedicated instructors who respect bjj and it shows through their passion and dedication that they demonstrate everyday in class.”
