Sora International Preschool states that its mission is to inspire confidence, ability, and potential in children for the future of the world, and to bring the diversity of the world into the classroom. The school states that true bilingualism comes from mastery of both languages and understanding their cultural backgrounds, and that its balanced curriculum nurtures “self-motivated aspiration” and “fortitude.” The name “Sora,” meaning the sky in Japanese, is described as symbolic of borderless societies and unlimited possibilities in the future of the children, and the school describes nurturing the SMILE of children, where SMILE stands for Social Skills, Manners, Interests, Languages, Enthusiasm.
The curriculum is based on various educational methods, including but not limited to Montessori and Froebel. The program for 2-year-old children includes learning activities that allow young children to work together and learn from one another through various learning environments to develop social, emotional, and cognitive development. The preschool program at the San Carlos campus is described as being for ages 2.5 through 5 years old, and the school does not offer kindergarten programs. The program states that students familiarize themselves with both languages and learn to distinguish their use by who they are speaking to, not by time or place.
