About

BASE Programs includes activities such as The Write Brain Project, where students follow a project based learning curriculum. In this program, students become published authors by leading the creative process from storyboarding the plot to creating the illustrations. BASE Programs also offers activities in academics, athletics, and enrichment that extend learning beyond the school day.

BASE Programs has operated since 2008 under the leadership of founders Denise and Corie, who are both former students of CSUSM in Human Development. The program states a mission of empowering youth to reach their greatest potential by becoming lifelong learners. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization built on the framework established by the California Department of Education and is supported through an ongoing partnership with Oceanside Unified School District and the San Diego County Office of Education. The organization describes its focus on 21st Century Expanded Learning Programs, including areas such as imagination and curiosity, empathy and global stewardship, initiative and entrepreneurship, problem solving and critical thinking, effective communication skills, agility and adaptability, and collaboration across networks. BASE Programs notes that Write Brain is a project based learning curriculum in which students learn creativity, collaboration, literacy, and more, and that students lead the entire creative process from storyboarding to illustration. The program describes having a network of creative educators with a passion for expanded learning programs and states that expanded learning programs are an essential resource to working families.
