About

Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) is a STEM-based, outdoor science school that focuses on marine science education for 4th- through 12th-grade students. The program’s focus areas include marine biology and island ecology, self-esteem building and teamwork, environmental awareness, and life skills and peer relations. Each participating school selects its own CIMI adventure by choosing daytime and evening activities that match its students’ needs.

Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) states that its mission is to provide exciting marine science education for 4th- through 12th-grade students. One teacher from Heritage Hall reported, “I wanted students to have an introduction to marine biology and oceanography as well as some activities that would challenge them personally and physically. You more than met these goals.”
