Beach Cities Rock Club Music School opened its doors in 2012 and has been locally owned and operated for over a decade. It was founded by professional musicians, and its instructors are described as experienced and professional musicians who excel at teaching students of all ages. The leadership team includes biff cooper (CEO / Instructor), sara cooper (COO / Scheduling Manager), Dr. Ira Head (Voice & Band Instructor), Mr. Alex (Guitar, Bass Instructor), Mr. GREG (Guitar, Bass, Piano Instructor, Band Director), Mr. Matt (Band Director / Instructor), Miss. Reese (Female Vocal, Piano, Guitar, Uke Instructor), Mr. Cody (Program Director), and Sarah Cooper (Operations Manager).

The program’s mission statement is “Inspiring artistic growth in a safe, creative & goal oriented environment.” Beach Cities Rock Club is described as independently owned and operated by artists and musicians and as the first ever Record Store Music School, operating as an after school music program in the back of record stores. Students are treated as musicians working on a team to accomplish collective goals, and their progress is documented by filming and recording their song, sometimes with a live drummer who may be a student or teacher. At Music Video Band Camp, any and all instruments are welcome, and the camp is located in San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, and Dana Point, culminating in a professionally produced music video.

The school is based at Power Plant Records, which is described as a record store, recording studio, and music academy that evolved into a community center for artists and as a creative refuge, record store, and DIY space. Students can record themselves in the music studio or make a music video as a reward, and the shop includes an Artist Networking clipboard inside and on social media pages for musicians to connect. Beach Cities Rock Club has launched a streaming radio station that reached listeners around the world and has hosted student bands, high school DJs, open mics, and record release shows, maintaining a direct line to the music cultures in and around its area. It serves students in San Clemente, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, Ladera Ranch, Mission Viejo, and South Orange County coastal towns and is registered to accept payments from several charters including iLead and Cabrillo.

Beach Cities Rock Club is described as “orange county’s #1 Music school” and was referred to by OC Weekly as “An all-in-one record store, recording studio, and music academy that evolved into a community center for artists.” The program is open for both Zoom video and in-person lessons, and gift cards are available to purchase music lessons.
