About
Actors Workshop Studios offers on-camera training in acting that includes on-camera auditioning and the craft of acting for film, TV, and commercials. The program also includes industry knowledge and personal development in areas such as self-confidence, public speaking, memory, and concentration.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Adult actors make appointments on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday; junior program actors (ages 6–15) make appointments on Sunday, when the junior class meets in the afternoon.
Established in 1989, Actors Workshop Studios states that it is known as the city’s top producer of working actors and describes itself as the only studio in San Diego that provides the A to Z of working in the film and television industry. The studio notes that actors of all ages, sizes, colors, and looks have landed starring, co-starring, and feature roles, and that actors have landed hundreds of jobs for Los Angeles, San Diego, national, and international productions. It offers exclusive in-house auditions and showcases and workshops with producers, casting directors, and agents from Hollywood and San Diego, along with in-studio auditions for films, TV series, TV commercials, and web series, and ongoing career opportunities. The studio serves aspiring talent from throughout San Diego, as well as Orange County, Riverside County, Murietta, Temecula, and Fallbrook, and uses a fully equipped studio with a 3-camera set; younger actors should be able to read. The mission statement says, “Whether you want to ACT Professionally, or just train for Personal Development, we are ready to help!”
Testimonials include comments from participants such as Emory Ogletree II, who calls Actors Workshop Studios “a blessing” and recommends it for those looking to break into acting or maximize their potential. Another participant, Megan Montoya, reports learning how to audition and work on camera while building acting skills and describes the class setup positively, mentioning her teacher Jeri as “an amazing coach.” David Wagner notes learning fundamentals of audition technique and cold reads, as well as dissecting scenes and characters, and describes the classes as always informative.
