About

Full Potential Martial Arts Academy offers training in Okinawan Shito-Ryu Karate, Chinese Yang-Style Tai-Chi Chuan (Taiji), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Chinese Chin-na (Qinna), Japanese Aiki-jitsu, Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Krav-Maga, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Students also practice with wooden and bladed weapons such as eskrima sticks, knives, and sword, and take part in Qigong (chi kung), Yoga, self defense, and martial arts cross training.

• Ages: 12–18 years old
• Price: You just pay one low monthly fee for your martial arts and self defense classes at the beginning of each month; belt tests are free; the program does not require families to purchase any equipment through the school, and students do not need to purchase anything to start martial arts lessons.

Classes are taught by Brian Sagi, a senior martial arts instructor and practitioner with over 20 years of experience, who is also the head instructor and an endurance athlete. Full Potential Martial Arts Academy describes itself as San Diego’s premier martial arts school for adults and teenagers and offers premium martial arts classes specifically for adults and teenagers, for all levels from beginner through advanced. One of the main focus areas for classes is learning practical self defense skills through reality-based training, and the program teaches both internal martial arts and external martial arts (neigong and waigong). The academy follows a no-nonsense and no-gimmicks policy, does not require long term contracts, provides individual instruction tailored to the student at no extra cost, and all classes are taught by the senior martial arts instructor rather than junior instructors. The program is open to new adult and teen students ages 12 and up and holds classes in a group setting with a warm “family” that fosters a sense of belonging and persistence. According to some students, “I sometimes drag myself to training. But I remember that, no matter what mood I had when I got into class, by the time martial arts class is over, I have a big smile on my face.” The student community includes participants from Carmel Valley and nearby areas such as Del Mar, Solana Beach, La Jolla, Mira Mesa, Rancho Penasquitos, Scripps Ranch, Encinitas, San Diego city, and North County.
