About

The Skating School Program includes ice skating, figure skating, public skating, ice hockey lessons, hockey leagues, and Ice Skating Birthday Parties. Skaters can take classes in Pre-Alpha through Delta skating levels, Freestyle 1–10, Stroking, Harness Jump, Adult Dance/Moves in the Field, a Jump Start class, group performance classes, and dance class.

• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: twelve week semester

The program is led by a world class coaching staff and a leadership team that includes Justin Ross, Skating Director; Philip Linssen, CEO of SDIA Inc.; and Mark Linssen, COO of SDIA Inc. The stated mission is “To WOW our customers with a remarkable experience when visiting San Diego Ice Arena.” It is described as one of the largest recreational skating schools in the country and a Fun 'n' Learn Facility, with options ranging from tiny toddlers taking their first steps on the ice to high-level extreme power stroking. Jump Start is identified as a stepping stone into the United States Figure Skating competition system.

Since 2000, the Linssen brothers have created a vibrant community around SDIA, and each year since 1997, SDIA Inc. has teamed with Sentre Partners to run a temporary rink in downtown San Diego called “Fantasy on Ice,” with all proceeds going to Rady Children’s Hospital. Programs like Special Skaters and community fundraisers are noted as part of the arena’s social responsibility, and projects like a water reclamation system and solar panels are noted as part of its ecological efforts. The arena is also home of the award winning “Ice Skating Birthday Parties” and features a new ice skating surface.
