Steve & Kate's Camp states that all year long kids are in rigid structure, and that in summer the camp gives them freedom to expand and evolve, with campers choosing which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long. The camp describes this experience as both pure joy for kids and a training ground for life where they are empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions. The program notes that camp shouldn’t have an off-season, with additional fall, winter, spring, and school break camps, and that there are more than 90 locations from Manhattan to Manhattan Beach.

The camp structure allows campers to choose their activities, while parents can buy any number of days and send their child to camp on any day within the season. Parents can drop off and pick up at any time within camp hours, and long camp hours, snacks, lunch, and any activities that interest the child are included in all-inclusive rates. Families can purchase individual Day Passes with automatic full refunds for unused passes at the end of the camp season, or choose a Summer Pass for unlimited use. Campers can ramp up and wind down with recreational choices in the early morning and late afternoon.

Activity areas include stop-motion animation on custom-built animation stages, hand-sewing and machine sewing techniques in the Sewing Salon, and hands-on coding with carefully selected iPad apps for both early and advanced readers. The Media Lab includes film, coding, robotics, interactive virtual reality, and interactive art apps. Robotics offerings include guided activities, self-directed games, robot landscapes, and custom mazes. In the Bakery, campers explore baked creations with different fillings, spices, and add-ons, while the Tinker Lab features arts and crafts, custom maker packs, and 3D pens. The Gameroom & Lounge includes tabletop games, marble mazes, forts, sensory objects, and a bookshelf. Weekly Specials may include obstacle courses, musical performances, carnival games, movement workshops, and pop-up petting zoos.

Steve & Kate’s traditions at camp include activities such as Find Chuckie, which uses a rubber chicken, and Friday Pie-Day, which involves a pie in the face. Steve & Kate’s Camp is included in Bright Horizons Back-Up Care benefits. As it gets closer to summer, registered families receive a virtual camp orientation link by email with information about local camp drop-off and pick-up procedures, how to check in and out each day, what to bring and not bring, and other camp details.

The camp’s history notes that way back in 1980, Steve and Kate saw kids’ precious independence slipping away, and that at that time Steve wore denim shorts as a religion and Kate wore Reeboks to aerobics. Testimonials about Steve & Kate’s Camp include comments from Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, Apple’s Hot News, Variety magazine, The Washington Post, and the Chicago Tribune.
