Founded in 1991 as SPARTAK Club, La Jolla Fencing Academy is led by Head Coach Dmitriy Guy, who is a U.S. National Coach, North American Open Champion, and former Soviet Union National Champion. The academy states that it provides a welcoming yet elite fencing education for athletes of all ages, skill levels, and ambitions. Its coaching staff is described as world-class and among the best in the United States, and its athletes include members of U.S. National Teams, NCAA Champions, and All-Americans. La Jolla Fencing Academy is the only fencing club in San Diego to have produced both World and National Champions, and its athletes have been recruited by institutions such as Caltech, Harvard, Columbia, Notre Dame, the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, UC San Diego, and NYU. The facility features shock-absorbent hardwood flooring, climate control, and top-of-the-line fencing equipment, and the academy is partnered with RADICAL FENCING as the official supplier of premium quality fencing equipment.
