The Salvation Army states that its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Youth development is a key component of Kroc Center programming, and musical education is described as a proud tradition of The Salvation Army. Kroc Centers provide services to their local communities including food distribution, emergency services, counseling, and access to health and wellness services through wellness coaches, cardio and weight equipment, and aquatics facilities for low impact exercise.

The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is one of 26 Kroc Centers nationwide, and each Kroc Center includes a place of worship where weekly church services are held, a church as a key component, and communal space where community members from every walk of life can visit with friends and meet new people. Kroc Centers are described as being designed to be an integral part of each unique community, with classes, services, and amenities that are unique to each community’s needs, and scholarships and reduced price memberships are available. Mrs. Joan Kroc entrusted The Salvation Army with $90 million to build the first Kroc Center in the Rolando neighborhood of San Diego, and she passed away a little more than a year after it opened.
