The Little Sewing Room was established on July 30, 2012, and has served students since 2012. The mission states that the program believes anyone can learn to create clothing, accessories, and home décor items, bringing a blend of tradition and innovation to each project, with a stated commitment to excellence in every stitch and encouragement to learn and create something to be proud of.

Lead instructor Morrison Jackson earned a BFA in Theatre and a BA in Fashion Design from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and an MFA in Costume Design from the University of Southern California. Morrison has designed costumes for many plays throughout Los Angeles, has won several awards for this work, has extensive experience as a pattern maker for kids and junior knit design houses, has sewn costumes for several movies and TV series, and has taught sewing and clothing creation in college Fashion and Costume departments throughout Los Angeles. Instructor Danielle Anthony, who teaches digital illustration and design, received a BFA from Otis College of Art and Design, has been a designer for a leading athletic wear and active lifestyle company in Los Angeles, and has worked with companies such as Hurley, Roxy, Forever 21, Juicy Couture, Max Studio, Lane Bryant, and Armani Exchange. Danielle designs and develops for her own fashion brand, STRVTGY, founded the LA Startup Fashion Co-op meetup group, and serves on the Afterschool Fashion Curriculum advisory board, which develops after-school fashion programs for low-income students and at-risk youth.

The program notes that a few sewing machines are available for use in some classes, and some workshops specify detailed supply lists, such as sewing machines, rulers, fabric, elastic, thread, pins, and other sewing tools. The corset making class includes all supplies except the busk, outer fashion fabric, and lining in the cost of the class, and the Lotus Wireless Bra workshop includes a pattern suited for those who want more support than a typical bralette.
