The Little Sewing Room offers sewing, tailoring, draping, pattern drafting, garment embellishment, embroidery, fashion design, costume design, illustration, clothing alterations, custom-made-to-order garments, and historical reproductions in a warm and inviting studio. The program includes beginner to advanced courses, workshops, classes for all ages, adult and professional classes, a Kids and Teens Summer Sewing Camp, and monthly class start dates at the beginning of each month.

The Little Sewing Room was established on July 30, 2012, and has served the community since 2012. Instructors have spent years being professionally trained and working in theatre, television, film, the garment industry, museum displays, and universities, including experience with kids and junior knit pattern making, sewing costumes for movies and TV series, and creating corsets for the Pussycat Dolls stage show in Las Vegas and costumes for the Broadway production of Peter Pan. Lead Instructor Morrison Jackson holds a BFA in Theatre and a BA in Fashion Design from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and an MFA in Costume Design from the University of Southern California, has designed costumes for many plays throughout Los Angeles, has won several awards for this work, has extensive experience as a pattern maker for kids and junior knit design houses, and sewed costumes for the Broadway production of Peter Pan, which was nominated for a Tony Award for Costume Design. Instructor Danielle Anthony, who designed the program’s logo, has been a designer for a leading athletic wear and active lifestyle company in Los Angeles, received her BFA from Otis College of Art and Design, and has worked with companies such as Hurley, Roxy, Forever 21, Juicy Couture, Max Studio, Lane Bryant, and Armani Exchange. The mission of The Little Sewing Room states that anyone can learn to create clothing, accessories, and home décor items, that the studio reflects a love for the art of fashion and beautiful clothes, that it brings a blend of tradition and innovation to every project, that its commitment to excellence is present in every stitch, and that it is a place to brush up on old skills as well as learn new ones and create something to be proud of. Danielle Anthony is also a member of the Afterschool Fashion Curriculum advisory board, which develops after-school fashion programs for low-income students and at-risk youth.
