• Schedule: Summer camp
African-American Shakespeare Company was introduced in 1994. Its mission is to open the realm of classic theatre to a diverse audience and to provide a place for actors of color to work on classical roles. The company produces work from the canon of classical theatre, including Shakespeare and American and world playwrights, with an African-American aesthetic and an American sensibility. It values sharing classical repertoire and theatrical knowledge with under-represented actors and diverse audiences. Alicia Stamps, who is involved with the program, is a graduate of Cornish College of the Arts. Nataki Garrett is the Interim Artistic Director of San Francisco’s African-American Shakespeare Company. The company is a nonprofit organization and is funded in part by audiences, artists, patrons, neighbors, and collaborators, whom it identifies as essential stakeholders.
