For more than 170 years, the YMCA of Greater San Francisco has stood with individuals and families, having been established during the Gold Rush in 1853. Its mission is to empower each person’s journey and strengthen the foundations of community. The Richmond District YMCA, which runs this program, is described as a hub for connection, wellness, and support in its neighborhood and works side by side with individuals and families.

The YMCA of Greater San Francisco is a 501(c)3 charitable community organization that serves more than 130,000 people across its branches, program sites, and residential camp. The organization supports Employee Resource Groups for staff, including the African American Resource Network, Asian Pacific Islander Leadership Network, LGBTQ Employee Resource Group, Latinx Employee Resource Group, and Women’s Leadership Network. A staff member describes the Y as a welcoming place for the community and notes enjoying working there and hearing how the Y has played a role in the lives of people they meet at work and in the community.
