Bird School of Music Summer Camps
Bird School of Music, 1924 Polk St, San Francisco, CA 94109
About
Bird School of Music Summer Camps focus on band-based music and media projects. Campers start a band, write a song, create a professional recording, make a music video, and put on a show. Activities include rehearsal skills, reading music charts, recording and overdubbing, audio mixing, working on song structure, vocals, and other technical music skills, along with story, script, and storyboarding, camera skills and framing, lighting, production design, audio production, acting, editing, and team work. Summer camp bands learn and perform their favorite songs as well as write and record their own original material, and each session ends with an end-of-week performance for family and friends. Students make their own recording and music video from concept to completion and work with computer-based music recording equipment and software to record and edit songs and videos.

The school operates in a fully functioning professional recording studio and also serves as a performance venue, recording studio, and record label. Founder and instructor Lane Murchison is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and music producer with deep roots in the San Francisco music scene. The program’s stated mission is that music, community, and technology come together in a positive and safe learning environment, where students of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to learn, grow, and enhance their creative musical ideas, with an emphasis on technique and exposure to all genres of music so musicians can build on both familiar and unfamiliar ideas to produce something unique. Bird’s community involvement includes a Community Band and Second Line Saturdays that take music to the streets and into nursing homes, schools, and other locations, and partnerships with local schools to promote music and the arts. Note: Families are asked to register the student under their name and birth date.
