CAL Tennis Academy

CAL Tennis Academy offers kids tennis lessons, kids tennis camps, after-school tennis, and kids camps. The program also runs clinics and private tennis lessons that include kids as participants, alongside other lesson and camp options.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Lesson and camp options available seven days a week, with general hours from 6:00am to 10:00pm; clinics are 90 minutes with at least 3 students, or 60 minutes as a semi-private lesson with 2 students
• Price: Payment is required upon sign-up, and accepted forms of payment are cash or Venmo

CAL Tennis was born in 2021. The academy’s mission is to create a place for all players to have fun, socialize, play and learn the sport of a lifetime in a supportive environment. The program has a rain and fog policy in which the coach contacts families as early as possible and cancels the lesson for safety. Clinics follow a minimum attendance policy that can convert a clinic into semi-private or private lessons based on the number of students.

Previously its founder worked with the San Francisco Tennis Club (SFTC), Bay Club, U.C. Berkeley, the Youth Tennis Association (YTA), and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) providing tennis lessons, tennis clinics, and tennis camps for over 30 years. CAL Tennis Academy is described as a leader in adult tennis camps, adult group tennis lessons, after-school tennis, kids camp, and private tennis lessons in San Francisco and the Bay Area.

Parent and adult participants report that the coach, Frantz, has supported a daughter’s progress over a year of coaching and that she looks forward to practice, that adult clinics are well run and balance instruction with play, and that he is patient, experienced, and attentive to technique and fundamentals.
