About
Youth Classes at Art Haus SF include drawing, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, encaustic painting, collage, mixed media, book making, and sculpture. All supplies are provided, and no experience is required. With each class, students learn about specific artists and their mediums, and tools and techniques are taught with each lesson.
• Ages: 7–16 years old
• Schedule: Youth 1 classes for ages 7–11 meet in 2-hour sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:45pm–5:45pm and on Wednesdays from 1:00pm–3:00pm; Youth 2 classes for ages 12–16 meet in 2-hour sessions on Saturdays from 2:00pm–4:00pm; regular classes are paused during Summer Art Camps and resume in September
• Price: Fine Art Class Youth 1 (Ages 7–11) $70 for 2 hours; Fine Art Class Youth 2 (Ages 12–16) $70 for 2 hours; Private Class $125 for 2 hours; Youth Class Pack $520 for eight sessions (saving $5 per class)
Fine Art Class Youth 2 explores art school portfolio requirements appropriate for high school and college, with an emphasis on the development of technique and individual artistic expression. Private classes are available as a way to focus on specific projects or mediums with dedicated, hands-on instruction, and a Youth Class Pack allows families to purchase eight sessions in advance. Summer Camps offer project-based art with a focus on fun and fine art skills, and adult private and group classes are also available, with no prior experience required.
The program is led by artist and gallery owner Elizabeth Dekker, a figurative painter with a background in textile design and color development. She holds a BFA from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, where she focused on painting and printmaking, and she worked for almost 10 years as a designer and color specialist at a textile design firm. Elizabeth has taught art at Sonoma Charter School and other organizations for more than a decade and a half and opened Art Haus in late 2020. The mission of Art Haus is to create a place to inspire and nurture artists of any age and skill, based on the belief that self-expression is a necessity and exercising creativity is good for the soul, and the gallery states that it enjoys making new friends and meeting neighbors.
