Hummingbird Music School offers private lessons, year-round music classes, after school classes, and music camps that include performance opportunities. Students can study piano, guitar, electric bass, bass, ukulele, group piano, group ukulele, group guitar, rock band summer camp, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drums and percussion, vocals, songwriting, composition, jazz studies, music engineering, and recording arts. The program also offers Mandarin Group Piano as an additional group piano option.

Hummingbird Music School was founded in 2015. Its mission is to create lifelong music lovers through quality education in low-pressure settings focused on fun. The school describes its approach as offering quality music education in a fun, supportive, nurturing environment with a low-pressure educational approach that emphasizes fun over competition, and it highlights friendly, nurturing teachers who respond to children with enthusiasm. Private lessons are tailored to each child’s specific skill level and individual needs, with customized lessons to address the specific needs of each child in the manner that works best for their learning style, and year-round music classes and music camps are described as keeping students engaged and learning with regular programs and activities and sparking and encouraging a lifelong love of music through performance. The program also focuses on performance opportunities so students can see the result of their effort, and it describes its staff as a team of highly experienced, top-quality educators who share a love of music and a joy of teaching.
Founder Francesca Draughon, Ph.D., is a classically trained musician and musicologist with a B.A. in Music from Indiana University, an M.A. and Ph.D. in Musicology from UCLA, and she was named a Fulbright Scholar in Vienna, Austria from 1999 to 2000; she was appointed Arts Commissioner of Redwood City in 2022. Hummingbird Music School Manager Todd S. studied music performance at Foothill College and jazz composition at Berklee College of Music and teaches piano, guitar, electric bass, ukulele, group piano, group ukulele, group guitar, and Rock Band Summer Camp. Other instructors include Yoonsun “Sunny” K., who received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the College of Music at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea; Stella, who has decades of experience teaching, singing, and performing in choirs, has conducted choirs from preparatory to concert choir (K–12), has led numerous choirs and received prestigious music festival awards around the United States and globally, is part of FCSN, teaches at the Community School of Music and Art, and holds a Music for Minors certificate; Joshua, who has a B.A. in Music from Brown University through their multimedia program and an M.F.A. in Music Performance from Mills College; Michelle, who holds a B.M. from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; Robert, who holds a Master’s degree in Jazz Composition from the University of Oregon; and Michael, who studied music and computer science at Princeton University (B.A. 2016) and completed doctoral studies in Music and Technology at Stanford (Ph.D. 2025). Hummingbird Music School states that it is “Giving flight to the next generation of musicians.®” and offers Teaching Mentorships with a 2025–2026 class of student teachers. The school is also involved in the community by teaming with local high schools to offer exceptional students the opportunity to develop their teaching skills in real-world settings.
