About

Education Française Bay Area (EFBA) French Classes and Camps offers 100% French immersion summer camps that include creative projects, outdoor activities, cultural exploration, interactive workbooks, outdoor games, and cultural outings. The camps are open to all levels in French and are organized by weekly themes that focus on play in French. Immersive summer camps are led by counselors directly from France and use small-group immersive instruction with experienced French-speaking educators.

• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Day camp runs from 8:30am to 3:00pm with optional aftercare from 3:00pm to 6:00pm; multiple one-week sessions are offered in 2026 in San Francisco, Mountain View, Berkeley, and San Carlos.

EFBA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit French language school that has served children ages 5–18 across the San Francisco Bay Area since 2009 through afterschool French classes, immersive summer camps, online learning, cultural programs, and family events. The program follows a part-time school model that combines online French classes, afterschool French classes, and summer camps within a comprehensive 12-year curriculum aligned with DELF proficiency benchmarks, and it is the creator of the Virgule French-learning textbook series for children. EFBA’s French classes provide an accredited pathway for children and teens to learn French, and internationally recognized DELF exams are used as independent benchmarks of progress.

EFBA offers French camps for children aged 4 to 11 in some locations and for children aged 3 to 11 in Mountain View, where children must be fully potty-trained to attend, and it provides a Counselor-in-Training program for teens aged 12 to 15 at all camp locations. The organization requests that families of children with special needs share specific needs during enrollment and notify EFBA at least one month in advance so accommodations can be made, and it states a commitment to welcoming children with special needs, including those with learning differences or requiring assistance. EFBA is committed to an inclusive and welcoming environment for children and adults in its programs and states that it welcomes all children regardless of ability, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, age, cultural, racial, ethnic or national origin, social origin, opinions or beliefs, and that it values and respects the entire Francophone world and beyond.

EFBA has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since 2014 and by the American Camp Association (ACA) since 2019, and its afterschool program, summer camps, and cultural outings are supported by approximately fifty volunteers each year. The organization’s mission is carried out by a team that is first aid/CPR certified and background check verified. EFBA partners with schools and communities across multiple Bay Area cities and offers immersive cultural outings, both in-person and online, as part of a community-centered approach that brings language learning beyond the classroom.

Founder and President Gabrielle Durana describes EFBA as a unique nonprofit French school dedicated to fostering bilingualism in children aged 5 to 18 and emphasizes preserving native languages, early language learning, and linguistic and cultural diversity. One parent testimonial notes that EFBA provided a special needs assistant in a small after-school class, another highlights cultural outings, interactive workbooks, outdoor games, and contact with French speakers from diverse backgrounds, and other parents describe their children’s participation in EFBA as an important part of their family life and school community.
