Star Dance Studio offers dance classes for tots, kids, teens, and adults. The program also includes summer camp, teen and adult summer classes, and dance productions at San Francisco's Herbst Theater.

Star Dance Studio was established in 1950, when founder Ruth Jevarian opened the studio. She retired in 1974 and turned the studio over to her daughter, Micky Powell, who has managed the studio for the past 40+ years. For 75+ years, Star Dance Studio has brought joy to thousands of children and adults. The studio is dedicated to the memory of founder Ruth Jevarian, and Star Dance Studio is a registered servicemark.
The leadership team includes founder Ruth Jevarian and Director and studio director Micky Powell, and Micky’s daughter Julie taught at the studio for many decades and remains involved. Tami graduated from the San Francisco School of the Arts, holds a B.A. in Theater Arts & Dance, and specializes in ballet, contemporary, jazz, musical theater, and hip-hop. Monique is a certified member teacher of Dance Masters of America. Clare graduated from SDSU with a minor in dance and is a member of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. Sophia has a master’s degree in occupational therapy.
According to Director Micky Powell, “Our dancers learn the joy of movement, teamwork, achievement and discipline in a supportive, loving environment.” Ruth’s students performed around the city at special events, hospitals, and senior centers, sharing the joy of dance with their audiences. Star Dance Studio uses specialized dance programs for children and presents dance productions at San Francisco's Herbst Theater.
