Star Dance Studio offers Star Tots – Pre Ballet, Tap & Tumbling Basics; Personality Stars I – Ballet, Tap & Tumbling Combo; Personality Stars II – Ballet, Tap, & Tumbling Combo; Triple Stars – Ballet/Jazz/Tap Combo; Rising Star Classical Ballet I-A/B; Musical Comedy – Jazz & Tap; and Dynamic Stars – Jazz & Tap. It also offers San Francisco Star Dance Kidz Company, San Francisco Star Dance Junior Company, San Francisco Star Dance Teen Company, Adult Intermediate Tap, and Adult Ballet Barre.

• Star Tots – Pre Ballet, Tap & Tumbling Basics — 3.5–5 · Sat 8:15 AM · No dance experience required. 45 minutes.
• Personality Stars I – Ballet, Tap & Tumbling Combo — 4.5–6 · Thurs 4:15 PM; Sat 8:15 AM · No dance experience required. 50 minutes.
• Personality Stars II – Ballet, Tap, & Tumbling Combo — 5.5–7 · Fri 4:15 PM; Sat 9:10 AM · Prerequisite: Personality Stars I. New students are welcome. 50 minutes.
• Triple Stars – Ballet/Jazz/Tap Combo — 6.5–8 · Mon 4:15 PM; Wed 4:15 PM; Thurs 5:15 PM; Sat 11:10 AM · Prerequisite: Personality Stars II. New students can book a 30-minute private assessment before registering. 50 minutes.
• Rising Star Classical Ballet I-A/B — 7.5–9 · Tues 4:15 PM; Sat 10:10 AM · No previous dance experience is needed. 50 minutes.
• Musical Comedy – Jazz & Tap — 7.5–9 · Tues 5:15 PM; Fri 5:15 PM; Sat 10:10 AM · Prerequisite: Triple Stars. Additional ballet class is highly recommended. New students with previous dance experience may book a 30-minute private assessment before registering. 50–55 minutes.
• Dynamic Stars – Jazz & Tap — 8.5–11 · Sat 9:10 AM · Prerequisite: Musical Comedy. Please also register for a ballet class. 50–55 minutes.
• San Francisco Star Dance Kidz Company — 8–12 · Mon 5:15 PM · Attend the Tryout date: 9/14 5:15-6:10 PM. Bring $40 audition fee. Do not register until accepted. Company members require enrollment in ballet, tap, and jazz classes. 55 minutes.
• San Francisco Star Dance Junior Company — 11–14 · Mon 6:15 PM · Attend the Tryout date: 9/14 6:15-7:10 PM. Bring $40 audition fee. Do not register until accepted. Company members require enrollment in ballet, tap, and jazz classes. 55 minutes.
• San Francisco Star Dance Teen Company — 13–17 · Wed 8:15 PM · Attend the Tryout date: 9/16 8:15-9:10 PM. Bring $40 audition fee. Do not register until accepted. Company members require enrollment in ballet, tap, and jazz classes. 55 minutes.

About the provider

Star Dance Studio was established in 1950. Ruth Jevarian opened the studio in 1950, Micky Powell is the studio director, and Micky has managed the studio for the past 40+ years. Julie is Micky Powell’s daughter and remains involved. The mission statement says, “Our dancers learn the joy of movement, teamwork, achievement and discipline in a supportive, loving environment.” The community involvement facts say Ruth’s students performed around the city at special events, hospitals and senior centers, and the dance companies take part in community performances, usually 1x monthly Oct/Nov/Feb/Mar.

• Adult Intermediate Tap — adults · Mon 7:15 PM · Adult class. Good fit if you’ve studied tap before. Class size is limited.
• Adult Ballet Barre — adults · Mon 8:15 PM · Adult class. Beginning and advanced students welcome.

Registration for the 2026/2027 season is closed; contact us to be added to a waitlist. No dance experience required for some classes. New students may book a private assessment for some levels. Company classes require acceptance after tryout. Adult classes are non-performing. Tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable. New students have a 30-day trial period. Registration is not complete until both the registration fee and tuition payment have been received.
