Gator Camp includes activities such as robots, rockets, outer space, dinosaurs, nature, drawing, stories, music, painting, sculpture, model building, puzzles, gymnastics (floor), fitness and exercise, nutrition, games, volleyball, basketball, soccer, flag football, tennis, and martial arts. The morning Gator Start Camp focuses on science, art, and movement, and the afternoon Gator Sports Camp uses a station-based daily schedule with team sports, tennis, and martial arts rotated every hour.
• Ages: 7–14 years old
• Schedule: Gator Start Camp runs 8:00am–12:00pm with supervised lunch from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, and Gator Sports Camp runs 1:00pm–5:00pm in six-week sessions. Gator Start Camp is scheduled from June 22, 2026 to July 31, 2026, and Gator Sports Camp is scheduled from June 23, 2025 to August 1, 2025, each for six weeks.
• Price: Gator Start Camp costs $1,000 for all 6 weeks or $200 per week, with Week 2 at $160 due to being closed on 7/3. Gator Sports Camp costs $1,250 for all 6 weeks or $250 per week, with Week 2 at $200 due to being closed on 7/3.
The program groups boys and girls ages 7–14 by age and offers a variety of developmentally appropriate sports and physical activities. The San Francisco State University Gator Youth Sports Summer Camp, which includes Gator Camp, has a 30-year history. The program aims to enhance self-esteem and confidence through physical activity and sports instruction, and to promote fitness and motor skill development. It also aims to teach life skills, support balanced, well-rounded healthy habits, encourage critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication, and build movement skills such as gymnastics, fitness, and nutrition. The program states that it aims to help campers make new friends, develop self-confidence, perseverance, and leadership skills, and strengthen the body and mind. Dr. David Walsh, a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, hosts the San Francisco State University Gator Youth Sports Summer Camp. COVID vaccinations are no longer required, and there is a 50% refund fee per transaction up to June 1st, with no refunds after June 1st, 2026.
