About
Gator Camp includes activities such as robots, rockets, outer space, dinosaurs, nature, drawing, stories, music, painting, sculpture, model building, puzzles, floor gymnastics, fitness and exercise, nutrition, games, volleyball, basketball, soccer, flag football, tennis, and martial arts. The program offers two connected options, Gator Start Summer Camp in the morning and Gator Youth Sports Summer Camp in the afternoon, to create a full day experience. Daily activity stations include an hourly rotation through team sports, tennis, and martial arts, and the program no longer offers swimming.
• Ages: 7–14 years old
• Schedule: Six-week Gator Start Camp session and six-week Gator Sports Camp session with morning and afternoon options
• Price: Gator Start Camp: $1,000 for all 6 weeks or $200 per week (Week 2: $160 discounted due to being closed 7/3); Gator Sports Camp: $1,250 for all 6 weeks or $250 per week (Week 2: $200 discounted due to being closed on 7/3)
The curriculum is designed around science, art, and movement, with activities that encourage academic skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication. The program focuses on learning movement skills such as gymnastics, fitness, and nutrition, and boys and girls ages 7–14 are grouped by age and offered a variety of developmentally appropriate sports and physical activities. Gator Start Camp runs from 8:00am to 12:00pm with supervised lunch from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, and Gator Sports Camp runs from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
Gator Start focuses on teaching children life skills and how to become balanced, well-rounded healthy individuals, and aims to enhance self-esteem and confidence through physical activity and sports instruction, in addition to promoting fitness and motor skill development. The San Francisco State University Gator Youth Sports Summer Camp has a 30-year history. Dr. David Walsh, a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, hosts the San Francisco State University Gator Youth Sports Summer Camp. COVID vaccinations are no longer required, and there will be a 50% refund fee per transaction up to June 1st, with no refunds after June 1st, 2026.
