• Ages: 2–18 years old
• Schedule: Fall Session runs September 12–December 20, 2026; Spring Session runs January 9–May 16, 2027; Summer Programs run June 6–July 26, 2026. Classes in the Youth & Teen Program (ages 8–18) are structured to develop over the academic school year, with students remaining with the same class and level for both Fall and Spring Sessions.
• Price: A $65 Beyond the Classroom Registration Fee is charged at enrollment. Families can choose a Two-Payment Plan with a 5% service fee added to tuition, or a Nine-Payment Plan with a 10% service fee added to tuition, and the service fee will not surpass $180.
Founded in 1971 by Artistic Director Brenda Way, ODC was the first modern dance company in the United States to own its home facility, the ODC Theater. The organization states that ODC School and Rhythm & Motion Dance Program offer 150+ classes a week, 365 days a year for all ages and levels. ODC’s mission is to be dedicated to the lifecycle of the artistic process and to inspire audiences, cultivate artists, engage community, and foster diversity and inclusion through dance. ODC notes that it advocates for the performing arts as an essential component to the economic and cultural development of the community.
The program describes itself as a creative hub for ages 2–18, with a supportive and body-positive environment. Young Creative Dance Classes are listed for ages 2–7, Youth Dance Classes for ages 7–13, and Teen Dance Classes for ages 12–18. Dance performance opportunities and Youth & Teen Summer Dance Programs are part of the offerings. Registration is conducted on a first come, first served basis, and scholarship opportunities are available. Some classes qualify for a 10% tuition discount for students taking multiple, different classes in a session or for siblings enrolling at the same time. Prorated Spring-only tuition is available for those joining in January, and the program states that there are no refunds; remaining tuition after withdrawal is credited to the ODC account and does not expire.
For clothing and footwear, Young Creative classes call for form-fitting clothing and bare feet, with no jeans or tutus. Hip hop classes listed as Welcome to Hip Hop require sneakers reserved for studio use only. Contemporary classes call for form-fitting clothing such as solid color leggings with a solid color leotard or tank top, and these classes are taken barefoot. Ballet classes specify pink convertible tights and ballet slippers with solid color leotards based on the student’s level, or a white, black, or solid color t-shirt or tank top with black, gray, or flesh-tone tights or leggings and ballet slippers.
A testimonial from The New Yorker about ODC states, “The dancing is always excellent: full-bodied and expansive, without being showy or brawny.”
