JAMaROO Kids began in 2001 when founder Jamaica Stevens created an Introduction to Creative Movement and Dance class. In 2004, she left her position as Head Teacher at ABC Academy Preschool to teach dance classes full-time, and in 2006 she officially changed the name of the company to JAMaROO Kids and added Yoga, Art, and Bilingual classes. Since 2005, the company has offered weekly classes in over 100 different preschools, grade schools, after-schools, family daycares, recreation centers, children’s stores, and museums throughout the Bay Area, and it expanded in 2011 by opening its first onsite location in San Francisco. During the pandemic, JAMaROO Kids lost 150 school accounts overnight and shifted its offerings, and today its programs are offered at over a half dozen parks with weekly music in the park classes year round. The company now offers Dance, Music, Yoga, Bilingual, and Art classes weekly in over 125 different preschools, elementary schools, after-schools, family childcares, and museums throughout the Bay Area in California and the Seattle Area in Washington State.
Founder and Executive Director Jamaica Stevens is an Early Childhood Education Specialist and Instructor who combined her knowledge of Child Development with her interest in dance, music, and teaching. The leadership team also includes Music Specialist and Early Childhood Education Specialist & Instructor Natalie Ernst, and SF-based Instructor and Music Specialist Sohnjay Reeves. JAMaROO Kids has created hundreds of original children’s songs and curriculum, has a professionally produced album available on major streaming platforms, has a published book titled “Yoga Adventure!”, and runs a YouTube channel with nearly 600 videos and over 3 million views.
JAMaROO Kids serves over 120 different preschools, after-schools, recreation centers, family daycares, and other community venues weekly, working with thousands of children and reaching over 250,000 families annually across multiple Bay Area counties. The team offers enrichment programs at preschools, daycares, schools, recreation centers, parks, and libraries throughout the Bay Area and the Seattle Area in Washington State, and also travels to facilities chosen by clients to provide services. When instructors are not teaching classes, they host children’s parties and entertain at many community, corporate, and private events. The program’s Teachers Pay Teachers account is visited by teachers across the United States, and Jamaica has traveled to over half of the states in the country to present at educational conferences and lead workshops for educators.
