About
Peekadoodle Preschool includes music, art, open play, and teacher-directed activities as part of its program. Music and art are led by specialists. The program uses a balanced approach to learning, with a curriculum that centers on the whole child through a balance of guided exploration and learning through play.
• Ages: 20 months–4 years old
• Schedule: Office hours Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Peekadoodle Preschool is inspired and influenced by Montessori, Reggio Emilia, play-based learning, and the developmental continuum. The program offers rich experiential lessons that scaffold as children progress through the program and uses small class sizes. It is licensed by the State of California: 384004147. The preschool operates on a custom-designed campus with large classrooms that have high ceilings and skylights, bright and airy intentional learning environments, and an indoor-outdoor learning space that includes a 2,500-square-foot outdoor play yard with sand and water features.
The leadership team, led by CEO Ellen Park, supports teachers, students, and families while remaining innovative about programming and early childhood education. The school, students, and families create a reciprocal and supportive community that honors the home-school connection and strives to be committed members of surrounding environments. Peekadoodle Preschool states that it is committed to cultivating a community of curious learners that will become courageous and compassionate citizens of the world.
One parent describes Peekadoodle Academy as “one of San Francisco’s hidden gems of preschools” and notes its balance of play-based learning with academics and its “warm, sweet, and loving culture.” Ellen Park, CEO, states that ample opportunities for open play allow students to hone creative thinking, develop relationships, and problem-solving skills, and that teacher-directed activities introduce developmentally appropriate concepts that prepare students both academically and socially for the years ahead. The 2019 rebuild brought Peekadoodle to its forever home in the Inner Richmond in San Francisco.
