San Francisco Recreation and Park Recreation Programs
San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, 501 Stanyan Street, San Francisco, CA 94117
About
San Francisco Recreation and Park Recreation Programs include activities such as the San Francisco Youth Baseball League (SFYBL), Girls in Sports Volleyball League, tennis, pickleball, and other youth sports. The programs also offer Health and Wellness classes, Summer Day Camps, Camp Silver Tree, Teen SF Navigation, and kayak and paddle board programs at Mission Creek. The CORE program offers a two-week experience, with one week in San Francisco and one week at Camp Mather in Yosemite.
• Schedule: CORE offers a one-of-a-kind two-week experience, with one week in San Francisco and one week at Camp Mather in Yosemite.
• Price: A $5 reservation fee at select tennis and pickleball locations was passed unanimously by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission; under this fee structure, players pay $5 per hour for online reservations at 28 of the 66 locations overseen by Rec and Park.
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department manages more than 230 parks, playgrounds, and open spaces, including Sharp Park in Pacifica and Camp Mather in the High Sierras, as well as recreation centers, swimming pools, golf courses, sports fields, and clubhouses that host sports- and arts-related recreation programs for people of all ages. Its responsibilities also include Golden Gate Park, Coit Tower, the Marina Yacht Harbor, the San Francisco Zoo, and Lake Merced. The department states the mission, “Everyone Deserves to Get Out and Play-- Facility and Program Accessibility.” In 2017, San Francisco became the first city in the nation where all residents have access to a park within a 10-minute walk.
Programs are in session for Winter 2026. Member registration begins February 28th at 10 a.m. for members of the Randall Museum and Sharon Arts Studio, and this registration is only for classes at those locations. Priority registration is open to current scholarship recipients, and senior registration is only open for classes listed as age 55+. Under the previous free reservation policy for courts, courts were booked and not utilized, causing frustration for players seeking open courts. For recreation program registration, translated assistance is available by phone, and a Recreation Program Registration (Translation Available) phone number is provided.
Rec & Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg has been named President of the Resources Legacy Fund and is the city’s second longest serving General Manager. India Basin Waterfront Park, which opened last year, received a Global Award for Excellence and Innovation from World Urban Parks for transforming a former industrial site into a community destination. Nominations are open for the Recreation & Park Department’s Community Opportunity Fund (COF), which supports community-driven park improvement projects across the city.
