AcroCamp at CrossFit South Park is part of AcroSports, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to creating community through movement, performance, and circus arts. AcroSports was founded in 1993 by a local resident and community activist along with two acrobats from the Moscow Circus and a gymnast from Ukraine, and it has served the community for over 25 years. The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and staffed by professionals, with a leadership team that includes Executive Director Dorrie Huntington, Board President Dan Fitting, Treasurer Peter Van der Sterre, Secretary Jennifer Niles, and Board Members Jake McGoldrick, Mark St. Peter, and Larry Rosenberg. All coaches are CPR and First Aid certified, and the organization states that its primary guiding principle is “Safety First!” AcroSports describes itself as a Bay Area non-profit institution with a 10,000 square foot facility and offers camps that include weeks of jumping, bouncing, climbing, and clowning around.

AcroSports has been formally recognized and honored for engaging and empowering youth by both the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the California State Legislature, including a Certificate of Recognition from the California Legislature Assembly and a Board of Supervisors Proclamation declaring May 18, 2003 “AcroSports Day.” It has also received Best of the Best 2025 (gold and silver) from Bay Area Parent. The organization reaches out to the community by working with schools, various city programs, and other non-profit organizations, and it significantly subsidizes many public school outreach programs so they can be offered at low cost. AcroSports also offers free on- and off-site physical recreation programs to children in need and provides tuition assistance to those who qualify, as well as numerous low-cost in-school programs.

Parent and community feedback about AcroSports includes comments describing it as having coaches who are “great” and “dedicated to their jobs and to their students,” with facilities that are “a lot of fun,” “always clean,” and with “lots of room.” Parents note that children have enjoyed classes and birthday parties there at ages 5 and 6, and that the organization offers tumbling, conditioning, parkour, circus arts, and more. One testimonial from Assemblyman Mark Leno congratulates AcroSports on ten years of engaging and empowering youth and adults through acrobatics, dance, gymnastics, and circus arts, and notes its focus on a safe and positive environment and outreach to diverse communities.
