SMAart Studio Pottery Classes & Workshops

SMAart Studio Pottery Classes & Workshops offers pottery activities that include wheel throwing, hand building, sculpture, Raku, and Paint Your Own Pottery (PYOP). Classes are available for all experience levels in 1-day, 4-week, or 6-week sessions. The studios provide complete firing options with Cone 5 oxidation, Cone 10 reduction, and Raku firings, along with a variety of glazes and clay bodies.

SMAart Studio includes more than 10,000 square feet of fully equipped studio space and offers creative memberships, including cubby, shared room, and remote memberships, with 24-hour access for in-house members and 9am–10pm access for remote members and students. Members receive firing discounts and have access to Cone 10 and Raku firings at the Sutter location. The program also offers events and private experiences for team-building events, birthday parties, and celebrations with clay. Gallery space at Sutter Gallery (operated by KnK Contemporary) and 24th St Gallery (run by members) showcases work from SMAart members and invited artists and shares creations with the wider San Francisco community. Guest workshops and specialty workshops with visiting and renowned ceramic artists are also part of the program. The program was founded by Steven M Allen (SMA), and its stated mission is: “At SMAart, we believe clay connects people.”
