St. James Preschool offers Nature Connections with Lauryn, the Great Books Project, Music & Movement, and weekly Spanish classes. The Pre-K class goes to the Marin Headlands once a month for Nature Connections with Lauryn, and Music & Movement classes are led by Teacher Leo, who weaves his native Spanish into every class. Children are grouped by age in three classroom environments, and most children start in the Twos program, with full and half day programs offered.

St. James Preschool is a nonprofit and nonsectarian preschool that has been a part of San Francisco’s Inner Richmond neighborhood for over 60 years and was founded in 1963. It has a small school setting with an exceptional child-to-teacher ratio and provides quality education to children from ages 2 to 5 through dedicated child-centered, play-based learning. Nature Connections was the first program of its kind for a preschool in San Francisco and is described as a hands-on science program that engages children’s sense of wonder and guides their natural curiosity. The Great Books Project is a key part of the school’s literacy program and is a curated home-lending library that includes more than 50 age-appropriate books each year, focusing on hidden gems, classics, and diverse themes.
The mission of St. James Preschool is to create a welcoming environment committed to building on, developing, and expanding the unique abilities of each child within an atmosphere of joy.
