Ms. Marian’s Dance Garden opened in October 2013 and was founded on 10.1.13. Over thirty years ago, Ms. Marian designed a movement program for early learners age 6–36 months using her own son. The studio is described as a performance-focused dance studio with three Schools of Movement for infants/toddlers, kids, and teens/adults, and as a Training Center for teachers, students, and dancers.
The leadership team includes Ms. Marian (Marian Roth-Cramer, BA, MFA), Ms. Nika (Nika Jurich), and Mr. Welsh (Tim Welsh). Marian Roth-Cramer has 30+ years’ experience as a performer, teacher, producer, author, and company director. Nika Jurich is a freelance dancer, teacher, choreographer, and musician who began her training in Los Gatos, California, graduated from the Harid Conservatory in 2015, the Pacific Northwest Ballet Professional Division in 2017, and the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program in 2019, and began teaching in 2016. Tim Welsh began his dance instruction at the Shipley and Smith School of the Danse in Colma, California with Benny Smith, later became a full-time tap and jazz instructor, opened his own studio in Sunnyvale, California, has belonged to National Dance and Affiliated Artists (NADAA), Dance Arts Unlimited (DAU), and National Tap International (NTI), and has choreographed for multiple musicals and taught in many dance conventions.
The mission statement of Ms. Marian’s Dance Garden describes a community of dancers, faculty, staff, and volunteers who state that they have a high regard for each other, the art of dance, and the respectability and value of their work, and who request that all participants demonstrate willingness to be held accountable and to uphold stated values and ethics. The mission statement also says that in their study and performance, they show respect to parents, students, and all who call Ms. Marian’s Dance Garden home, and that they consider it a privilege to participate in a community for the performing art of dance exemplifying integrity, character, leadership, responsibility, and professionalism.
The program notes that its student Alexis was accepted into the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts Conservatory Dance Program. Community presence is described through mentions in the Richmond Review and visibility on MUNI buses running on Geary Boulevard. Web design for Ms. Marian’s Dance Garden is credited to HT Website Designs and Nika Jurich. Families are provided downloads that list dance gear, a dress code, and shopping lists for Pre-K/K, K/1st, and Grade 2 and up.
