• Schedule: Seasonal leagues and clinics offered year round, including winter, spring, summer, and fall sessions
National Junior Basketball (NJB), the parent organization of Silicon Valley NJB, is a nonprofit youth basketball organization founded in 1984 that has grown into a national youth league with over 25,000 participants in 6 states. Silicon Valley NJB is a section of the Northern California region of NJB and, during the winter, is the parent organization to more than 12 NJB chapters across the Bay Area. The Silicon Valley Section consists of 14 chapters with over 5,000 players, and players must play in the respective chapter in which they reside. In the Northern California NJB region, about 8,500 boys and girls play NJB basketball, and Silicon Valley chapters include Almaden Valley, Berryessa/Milpitas, Coyote Creek/South San Jose, Evergreen/San Jose, Foothill, Gilroy/Morgan Hill, Hollister, Los Gatos, Palo Alto, Redwood (Menlo Park/Woodside), Saratoga, Sequoia (Redwood City/San Carlos), West San Jose, and Willow Glen.
The program’s mission is to inspire youth regardless of race, creed, or national origin; to practice the ideals of health, citizenship, and character; to implant the game elements of safety, sanity, and intelligent supervision; to keep the welfare of the player first, foremost, and entirely free of adult quest for glory; and to emphasize teamwork for all participants. NJB promotes sportsmanship and a philosophy that includes teaching fundamentals, proper shooting, passing, dribbling, defense, good sportsmanship, teamwork concepts, and enforcing a draft system to ensure each team is equal in talent and size, with the Griffin method implemented in the draft system. Silicon Valley NJB also offers roles such as referee, coach, or scorekeeper.
The Rookie Basketball Program is a co-ed clinic for K–2nd grade with lowered rims and runs on specific dates from January 4 through February 7 on Saturdays from 9am–12pm. The 2026 Spring League season dates are 3/22, 3/29, 4/12, 4/19, and 4/26, with tournament dates on 5/02 (Saturday) and 5/03 (Sunday). National Junior Basketball was founded by the same family that created the American Basketball Association (ABA), which later became part of the NBA. The leadership connected to NJB includes Dennis Murphy Jr., Founder of the National Junior Basketball League, and Dennis Murphy Sr., one of the founders of the ABA that merged with the NBA. Mel Robertson was inducted into the NJB Hall of Fame in 2012 for over 22 years of service.
