About
Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley Programs is a non-profit youth development organization that offers innovative and effective afterschool and summer enrichment programs. The programs use a proven youth development strategy called Formula for Impact and implement Five Key Elements for Positive Youth Development, with high-yield activities and targeted programs combined with regular and frequent attendance over time. The organization provides nationally recognized programs in six core areas, tailored to the physical, emotional, cultural, and social needs and interests of its members, and engages young people in activities with adults, peers, and family members.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
Founded in 1944, Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley traces its beginnings to San Jose founder Uncle Harry. The organization offers a Grades TK–12 After School Program with age-appropriate and diverse programs provided by trained youth development staff, High School/Grades 8–12 Teen Programming, and a Grades K–12 Summer Program. Child safety is stated as the No. 1 priority, with layers of safety policies and guidelines, and the programs provide a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment where kids and teens can focus on being a kid. Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley serves over 8,000 youth across 3 Bay Area counties, primarily low-income, at-risk Santa Clara County youth ages 4–18+ years, including youth in Title 1 schools who are not meeting academic proficiencies, and takes a holistic approach to creating well-rounded, confident, and healthy youth.
Parents and youth describe the Clubs as a safe haven and a place that has rebuilt spirits and reshaped futures. Testimonials mention caring staff who invest time and care, support academic success, and communicate well with kids. One parent notes that a child now interacts more with other children and is less shy, and another shares that their child gets fed, receives help with homework, and has a chance to play with peers every day. Families report that staff are very caring and considerate of others’ feelings, that the program has been “an absolute lifesaver,” and that kids request to attend both the after-school program and the summer program.
