About
Visionary Arts offers weekly art and leadership pathways that include interactive STEAM-based community engagement activities. The program includes visual arts, creative expressions, and community showcases that connect art with themes like biodiversity, environmental science, and creative problem-solving.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
Visionary Arts is led by Founder and Creative Director Helen Yang, who earned her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and received foundational training at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. Helen Yang serves as a docent at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (de Young Museum and Legion of Honor) and is a participant in the Stanford Graduate School of Business LEAD program. The program is organized into three Visionary Pathway levels: Creative Sparkage (5–8), Confident Glowage (8–12), and Visionary Beaconage (12–18+), with an emphasis on rigorous visual art training and real-world application. Its stated mission is to bring artists, educators, and community leaders together to cultivate creative leadership, cultural dialogue, and youth-driven social impact, with the philosophy that “Art is not preparation for life. It is practice for leadership.” Visionary Arts describes itself as a creative leadership institution that trains children and teens to observe before reacting, think independently under uncertainty, communicate ideas with confidence and responsibility, and connect creativity to real-world impact.
Visionary Arts works with partners such as the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, museums, libraries, and global youth initiatives, and engages students in STEAM-based community activities and community exhibitions. Visionary Arts students hosted the “You and i in Harmony” event to raise awareness about different abilities, learning differences, and mental health. A portion of every purchase from Peace Pals artwork supports UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund). Students in the program have received international recognition, including honors from United Nations–affiliated art programs.
Parent and community feedback includes comments such as, “Visionary Arts helped my daughter discover her creative confidence and a love for environmental storytelling” (Aiden L., Parent) and “Helen Yang’s programs are a model for integrating art, technology, and leadership development in education” (Dr. Maria Chen, Stanford Parent Network). Other testimonials describe Visionary Arts as “a beacon for innovative art education and global citizenship” (Anonymous, Art Patron) and note that it “bridges fine art, technology, and global cultural leadership, empowering youth and families through creativity and purpose” (Community Partner, Nonprofit Leader).
