510 Judo states that it provides high quality instruction in judo and jujitsu in the city of San Leandro, serving the surrounding Bay Area, and describes judo as great for keeping in shape, self-defense and body awareness, and as incredibly fun. The dojo uses Dollamur judo mats over a custom “Denver floating floor” subfloor, and emphasizes a culture of respect and safety with a focus on learning how to fall properly. The program includes an Old School Judo class that ignores most modern sport rules as long as techniques can be practiced safely, and a No Gi Judo class done without a gi that incorporates techniques from wrestling and jiujitsu.
Head instructor Sensei David Quinonez holds a 4th Dan in Kodokan Judo, 8th Dan in Small Circle Judo and Jujitsu, 1st Dan in Kokoshin Judo, and 2nd Dan in Danzan Ryu Jujitsu, and has a long competition record that includes multiple World Masters medals, a Collegiate Nationals bronze, a High School National Championship, and the 1968 Professor Yamaouchi award for sportsmanship.
