About
Assumption CYO offers team sports throughout the year, including Track and Field, Girls Basketball, Sand Volleyball, Boys Basketball, and Girls Volleyball. The program offers team sports in the fall, winter, and spring for both girls and boys in grades K–8. Spring sports offerings include Track and Field for grades K–8, Girls Basketball for grades 2–8, and Sand Volleyball for grades 5–8.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Registration is open Jan. 5th–19th; the practice and game schedule is determined after registration closes and is announced by the Athletic Directors.
Assumption CYO is a ministry of the Church of the Assumption and is part of an active CYO program that provides several sports to children in the parish and community. Prior to enrolling, participants need to either live within the parish boundary, attend Faith Formation classes, or attend Assumption School. Participants are instructed to register their athlete for the grade they are in for the current school year, and teams are adjusted at the close of registration to determine which athletes will play up, if necessary. Assumption CYO is an expanded group of parents and parishioners committed to growing and improving the CYO sports program and is seeking a Treasurer, inviting individuals with a passion for youth sports who know how to balance a checkbook to contact them and fulfill school volunteer hours.
The Assumption CYO program is a ministry of the Church of the Assumption that models Christ's teachings in the athletic and spiritual development of youth in the parish. Through sports, it fosters faith, fellowship, character, and teamwork in a supportive, inclusive community where athletes can grow and thrive.
Assumption Parish and School are celebrating their 75th anniversary in 2026 and have celebrated 4,386 Baptisms, 8,890 First Holy Communions, 4,076 Confirmations, and 1,481 Weddings since the first Mass in 1951. Assumption Parish and School serve the wider San Leandro community through more than 44 active ministries, including outreach and service efforts such as St. Vincent de Paul, the Brown Bag Project, Lasagna Love, Knitting and Crochet, Assumption University for Seniors, and a Pastoral Care Ministry, and Assumption Parish participates in the San Leandro Cherry Parade. The broader parish and school leadership team includes roles such as CYO Co-chair, Parochial Administrator, School Principal, and leaders of ministries including Youth Ministry and Formation, St. Vincent de Paul, Finance Council, Pastoral Council, School Board, and various liturgical and service ministries.
