About
Lua o Nā Koa [Den of Warriors] offers Kajukenbo, self-defense, and Danzan-Ryū Jūjitsu classes, along with Menehune Classes, Teen and Adult Classes, and a SuperHero Academy. SuperHero Academy classes blend comics and martial arts to teach creativity, confidence, and responsibility. Every class is tailored to match the students’ learning pace, and the program also offers a beginner’s class, an adult class, and a Zoom option mentioned in a parent review.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options Monday, Wednesday, Friday evenings, plus Saturday and Sunday daytime hours
The program is open from 4:45pm to 9:00pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm on Saturday, and from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Sunday. Families can book three free consecutive trial classes while space is available, with eight trial spots available each month. The school is a Hawaiian-American Martial Arts Accredited School of the Official Kajukenbo Association of America: Gaylord Method and an Official Pacific Jujitsu Alliance charter school.
Instructors each have over a decade of teaching experience, and assistant instructors have more than 10 years of training, with accreditations from their respective organizations. The leadership team includes head instructor Sifu Kekoa, Great Grand Master Juarez, Sihing Willie, and Sihing Doug. One parent review notes that the dojo is kept in clean and tidy condition and describes the instructors and families as welcoming and warm. Another review mentions that the program offers both beginner and adult classes, hosts Zoom for those who cannot attend in person, and that classes can be a deep workout. Additional reviews describe it as a very good place for kids for physical growth and confidence development and reference long-term connection to Juarez Kajukenbo from the 1990s. The style of Kajukenbo practiced here became its own recognized branch in 1967 under the guidance and mentorship of Charles Gaylord.
