About

Lua O Nā Koa [Den of Warriors] Martial Arts offers Kajukenbo, Danzan-Ryū Jūjitsu, and self defense training. The program includes Menehune classes, Teen and Adult classes, and a SuperHero Academy that blends comics and martial arts to teach creativity, confidence, and responsibility. Every class is tailored to match the students’ learning pace, and the dojo offers both a beginner’s class and an adult class, with Zoom options if someone cannot attend in person.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options Monday, Wednesday, Friday evenings, plus Saturday and Sunday daytime hours

Since 1967, this style of Kajukenbo has been a recognized branch under the guidance and mentorship of Charles Gaylord. The mission statement for Lua O Nā Koa [Den of Warriors] Martial Arts is “Confidence. Creativity. Fitness.” The leadership team includes head instructor Sifu Kekoa, Great Grand Master Juarez, Sihing Willie, and Sihing Doug. Instructors each bring over a decade of teaching experience, assistant instructors have more than 10 years of training, and instructors hold accreditations from their respective organizations. The school is a Hawaiian-American Martial Arts Accredited School of the Official Kajukenbo Association of America: Gaylord Method, and an Official Pacific Jujitsu Alliance charter school.

Families can book free trial classes, with three free consecutive classes available while space allows, and only eight trial spots offered each month. One parent described the dojo as clean and tidy, with instructors and families who are welcoming and warm, and highlighted Sifu Kekoa’s extensive knowledge base, martial arts skill set, and intuitive teaching style. Another parent noted that their three kids attend about three times a week and regularly come home excited to practice what they have learned with Sifu Kekoa, Great Grand Master Juarez, Sihing Willie, and Sihing Doug. Other testimonials describe the program as a very good place for kids for physical growth development and confidence development, and one longtime participant called it “old school 90’s Juarez KAJUKENBO.”
