The program offers 3rd–8th grade boys AAU basketball teams that play year-round seasons, with teams practicing two times per week and participating in AAU tournaments and league games in San Marcos. Teams are kept small with about 8–9 players per team, and San Marcos Basketball has an A and a B team for each grade, with A teams usually playing in local and travel tournaments and B teams playing in local leagues such as Thrive SD and San Diego Sol. Tryouts are part of regular practice, occur on Tuesdays or Thursdays, and basketball tryouts are free, and camp groups are organized by different difficulty levels.

The coaching staff includes Christian Littlejohn-Chin, Nicholas “Nic” Ianniciello, Lila Swisher, Ximena Oltean, Ezekiel Gachalain, Ciprian Oltean, and Hilda Mateiu in roles across 9u–14u teams, with Ciprian Oltean serving as the main coach at San Marcos Basketball. Staff experience includes college play at Cal State East Bay and California State San Marcos University, high school varsity play with All-League honors, AAU competition, CIF playoff experience, and coaching at high school, community, and local league levels. The organization states a mission to give back to the community and the City of San Marcos by forming teams that play in middle and local high schools and to develop starter players for middle and high school basketball teams in San Marcos, Carlsbad, Vista, Encinitas, and Escondido, while helping players reach and maximize their highest potential and develop a lifelong passion for basketball.

San Marcos Basketball is a 501c3 non-profit corporation and describes itself as a competitive basketball AAU club with a European and American approach in a positive environment. The program keeps a European style of basketball characterized by disciplined defense and structured offenses that emphasize ball movement and team play, with defense employing a man-to-man strategy and practice training focused on elevated basketball skills, defense awareness, speed and quickness, advanced technical skills, basketball IQ, and fostering a competitive mindset. Stated benefits include low cost while still playing competitive ball, maximized playing time, enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence, one-on-one instruction, training hard in a positive environment, and developing lifelong passion for basketball, with the goal of training players to become starters on their middle and high school teams.

The club notes that for-profit basketball clubs will charge about four times more than this non-profit organization and that its basketball programs are described as more accessible in terms of pricing because they are focused on supporting talented local players. It also states that nonprofit sports organizations only accept players if their talent and skills are enough to play competitive basketball or if they are willing to learn and train hard. San Marcos Basketball trains players in North County San Diego locations including San Marcos, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Oceanside, Vista, Escondido, Rancho Santa Fe, Cardiff, and Poway.
