Peninsula Bridge was founded in 1989 as a 5-week summer program. The organization’s mission is to empower highly motivated, first-gen, low-income students to achieve college and career success through individualized support and transformational educational opportunities. Peninsula Bridge Middle School Academy is part of a 13-year commitment in which students join a cohort as rising 4th graders and receive academic support and programming from 4th grade through college, including Middle School Academy (Grades 4–8), High School Academy (Grades 9–12), College Access (Grades 11 and 12), College Success through the college years, and College to Career through the college years. The program uses a cohort-centric, selective cohort-based model with personalized advising, socio-emotional development, a holistic program model, wrap-around services, a whole-child, active learning approach, comprehensive parent education, and a rigorous and engaging curriculum that focuses on building a sense of belonging and confidence.

Peninsula Bridge serves highly motivated, first-gen, low-income students across the Peninsula and reports that 100% of scholars graduate from high school and matriculate to college, 92% of middle school students improved their reading comprehension in one year, 90% of Middle School scholars improved their writing skills in one year, 100% of scholars secure at least one internship before graduating college, 94% is the projected college graduation rate in 4–6 years, and 88% of college graduates are working career-ladder jobs or internships. Peninsula Bridge merged with Building Futures Now to maximize its impact on under-resourced and first-generation students on the Peninsula. A testimonial from Cathy Baur, Mountain View Whisman School District Chief Academic Officer, states that Peninsula Bridge engages with students and builds strong relationships with them starting in fourth grade and continuing throughout college, and that its volunteers and staff are committed to student success.
