About

"Art in the Natural World: Plants, Rocks, and Found Object Creations" offers a balance of outdoor exploration and studio art for students ready to deepen their skills and ideas. Each day begins with time outside at a nearby park, where students closely observe plants, textures, natural forms, and wildlife to spark creative thinking and gather information. In the studio, students will work on a different art project every day. They will design and construct wind chimes that explore 3D space, they will build shadow boxes inspired by storytelling and assemblage art, and they will build an accordion book while learning different drawing techniques. Art history and natural history are integrated into each project, helping students understand how artists and scientists observe and interpret the natural world. This workshop is ideal for curious students who enjoy being outdoors, asking questions about the natural world, and turning real-world observations into creative work.
