RunStrong running clubs, a program of the Kevin L. Armstrong M.D. Memorial Sports Foundation, offer running clubs that train and equip students to successfully compete in and complete 5k and 10k races. Participants compete in organized events such as the 34th Annual Dino Dash and the Santa Claus for a Cause 5k/10k. The Foundation also supports student athletes by arranging echocardiogram testing for freshman football players to look for evidence of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and by providing team physicians.
• Price: Your gift of $200 will provide registration fees for all races, transportation to and from races, a RunStrong T-shirt, and a new pair of running shoes.
RunStrong is comprised of student athletes from the Santa Ana Unified School District and is now described as one of the largest running clubs in Orange County. The Kevin L. Armstrong M.D. Memorial Sports Foundation has teamed with the Santa Ana Unified School District and has provided opportunities for Santa Ana students to excel athletically and academically for 20 years. Since 2005, over 17,000 students have benefited from the Foundation’s all-volunteer programs, including RunStrong running clubs, and in 2024–25 over 700 registration fees were sponsored for RunStrong students from Santa Ana to compete in three running events. RunStrong participants and coaches have taken home awards in their age groups.
The mission of the Kevin Armstrong M.D. Memorial Sports Foundation is to create opportunities for underserved students to reach their full potential academically and athletically. Leadership connected to the program includes Board Member Karen Armstrong and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kevin Armstrong, for whom the Foundation is named. The Foundation also notes events such as its 15th Annual Golf Tournament held on Monday, April 7, 2025, and its 6th Annual Golf Tournament scheduled for April 6, 2026, as well as a 20th Anniversary Dr. Kevin L. Armstrong Remembrance Celebration.

Diana from Carr Intermediate School in Santa Ana, California, calls one event one of the greatest experiences she has had, mentioning finish-line photos, snacks, small prizes, and completing her first 5k. Juan from Sierra Intermediate School in Santa Ana, California, thanks the program for the chance to run his first official race event and explains that, although he signed up for a 5k, he missed a turn and completed the entire half marathon without thinking about giving up.
